On Loving Vincent we painted 65,000 frames in oil paints.

We painted the first frame as a full painting on canvas board, and then painted over that painting for each frame until the last frame of the shot. We are then left with an oil-painting on canvas board of the last frame.

We have 853 shots in the film...

...so at the end of filming we will have 853 oil paintings on canvas that appear in the film.  Additionally we have 90 design paintings, made in the year before we started shooting, and which defined the style in which we re-imagined Vincent's paintings into the world of film.

200 paintings will be made available for sale...

...over the coming years. A selection of paintings have been made available for sale now, before the release of the film.

The size of paintings from the film...

...are 67cm wide and 49cm wide (26 ½" x 19 ⅓") painted in oil-paints on a canvas board that is 103 cm by 60cm (40 ½" x  23 ⅔"). The size of the design paintings varies, see individual painting listings for details.
